Project Updates

Check out the progress we’ve made this month on our Parks & Rec Bond projects!

J.E. “Jim” Ramseur Park:

Construction continues at the City’s first park in the northwest! This month, crews continued installation of the new playground equipment and made progress on the bridge that connects the lower and upper playground areas. The new basketball courts have been paved, and plumbing for the new splash pad is underway! Foundations for the restroom and maintenance facilities have been poured, and construction is now moving vertically. The J.E. “Jim" Ramseur Park is still expected to open next summer.

David Phillips Park:

Clearing and grading work continued at the new David Phillips Park, located directly behind the existing Activity Center. A new sewer line has been installed, and crews have started construction on the restroom shelter addition.

Academy-Gibson Skate Park, Pump Track, and Sculpture Garden:

Earlier this month, City Council approved the construction contract for this project - putting us one step closer to breaking ground and starting construction! We anticipate construction beginning later this fall, or early winter, and taking approximately 18 months to complete.

Projects still in the design phase include Hartsell Park, Poplar Tent Trailhead Park, Wilson Street Park, W.W. Flowe Park, and the Academy Recreation Center.
