Caldwell Park reopened just over one month ago and we’ve already had over 6,200 people visit! We’re averaging around 400 visitors daily and residents are thoroughly enjoying the City’s first-ever splash pad on these hot summer days! With three successful projects officially under our belts, we’re excited to see what’s still to come.

Academy-Gibson Athletic Fields:

Construction is nearing completion and we anticipate the fields to reopen just in time for fall baseball and soccer! This month, crews installed the grass behind the third base dugouts, poured concrete along the backstop and dugout, and added the red padding to the backstop.  

J.E. “Jim” Ramseur Park:

Construction continues and the new park is beginning to really take shape. The pickleball area is currently being graded, the foundation for one of the playground areas is being prepped, and additional curb work is being installed throughout the park. An overlook boardwalk is nearly complete that will connect the trails within the park to the Clarke Creek Greenway. This new park, the City’s first on the west side of the city, is anticipated to be completed next summer. 

David Phillips Park:

Construction at the new David Phillips Park, behind the David Phillips Activity Center on Burrage Road, began just last month after Mayor Morris, members of Council, City leadership, and the Park’s namesake Mr. David Phillips, held a formal groundbreaking ceremony. While the rainy weather the past few weeks wasn’t ideal, crews have still been able to begin grading and clearing work. Construction for this project is anticipated to take 12 months.

Academy-Gibson Skate Park, Pump Track, and Sculpture Garden:

During last month’s Council meeting, the final design of the City’s first Skate Park, Pump Track, and Sculpture Garden was approved and this month the project officially went out to bid.  Construction on the much-anticipated amenities is scheduled to begin this fall.
