Our Parks & Rec Bond Projects are making great progress and continue to stay on track with our current timelines, with the re-opening of Caldwell Park and the Academy-Gibson Athletic Fields on the horizon!

Caldwell Park:

We’re still on track to open this summer! Construction continued on the Robert Mathis Amphitheater continued this month, with the stage area concrete being poured. Crews also completed all underground electrical work and have completed all the additional sidewalks within the park. Next, crews will prep and pour the concrete underneath the covered basketball court area and begin installing playground and splashed equipment.

J.E. “Jim" Ramseur Park:

Site grading and storm drainage work continues at J.E. “Jim” Ramseur Park. Crews also started installation of the boardwalk that is part of the Clark Creek Greenway that connects to the new park. We’re still making great progress and anticipate opening next summer.

Academy-Gibson Athletic Fields:

The installation of the turf fields is complete, including the logo and all lining work. The electrical work within the new storage and restroom facilities is also complete, as well as the paved walking trail around Gibson Field. The backstop fence posts have all been installed and renovations continue on the existing press box building. We’re looking forward to the re-openings of the Academy-Gibson fields this fall!

New Artificial Turf Baseball Field

David Phillips Park:

This project was recently put out to bid and we anticipate construction beginning later this summer/early fall and taking approximately 12 months to complete.

Academy-Gibson Skate Park, Pump Track, and Sculpture Garden:

This much-anticipated project is in the final design phase, with final plans going to City Council this summer.

The Poplar Tent Trailhead Park, Hartsell Park, Wilson Street Park, and W.W. Flowe Park are all in the design phase.
