Construction Continues At Caldwell Park, Ramseur Park, and the Academy-Gibson Athletic Fields!
At Caldwell park, crews have been busy framing the amphitheater, covered basketball courts, and the restroom facility. The band shell style of the amphitheater roof is also featured on the restroom facility, giving the park a cohesive look. Crews started plumbing work within the restroom facility and laid the footings for the splash pad area.
Crews at Ramseur Park have been busy completing mainline sewer work and beginning installation on the stormwater underground detention cells. The detention cells will be installed underneath the parking lot area of the new park to temporarily store large volumes of rainwater and release it slowly to prevent flooding and erosion. You can see the size of the large yellow detention cells beside the Conex container in the picture below– they’re massive! To date, over 52,000 cubic yards of fill dirt was brought in and installed at the new park to level the site during the mass grading phase of the project.

Underground detention cells that will be installed underneath the parking lot at Ramsuer Park will provide stormwater runoff prevention.
Construction continues at the Academy-Gibson athletic fields as crews work on the subbase and drainage system for the new turf field. Renovations at the existing buildings at McAllister and Gibson Fields continues and the footers have been laid for the new storage building at Webb field.
City staff are working on the final permitting for the David Phillips Park and plan to take that project out to bid in late Winter. Final designs for the Academy-Gibson Skate Park, Pump Track, and Sculpture Garden, Poplar Tent Trailhead Park, Hartsell Park, and Wilson Street Park are still underway.
Each month during City Council's regular meeting, Parks and Recreation staff provide a full update on the status of all Parks & Rec Bond projects. Tune in here at the 13 minute mark for the full presentation.
