    <link>https://concordbonds.com/Project-Updates/ID/27/March-2026-Update</link>
    <description>Crews continue to make great progress at Caldwell Park, J.E. &amp;ldquo;Jim&amp;rdquo; Ramseur Park, and the Academy-Gibson Athletic Fields!

At&amp;nbsp;Marvin Caldwell Park, crews installed additional sidewalks and curbing throughout the park. The fence posts along the baseball field is being installed and the contractor poured&amp;nbsp;the slab and&amp;nbsp;stairs for the Robert Mathis Amphitheater. Next, crews will finish installing the curbing along the playground and basketball court areas and build the retaining wall at the Amphitheater. Marvin Caldwell Park is still on track to open this summer.

Pictured above: Caldwell Park&amp;#39;s newly paved parking lot and basketball courts.

Crews at&amp;nbsp;J.E. &amp;ldquo;Jim&amp;rdquo; Ramseur Park&amp;nbsp;completed the waterline tap installation this month. Contractors continue to work on the Park&amp;rsquo;s mass grading and water drainage system installation.&amp;nbsp;Crews will continue working on retaining walls throughout the park. These walls stabilize areas of uneven ground, allowing us to maximize the available ground space at the new park.&amp;nbsp;J.E. &amp;ldquo;Jim&amp;rdquo; Ramseur Park is still on schedule to open next summer.

Pictured above: storm drainage system installation at Ramseur Park

The turf field is being installed at the&amp;nbsp;Academy-Gibson Fields, making a big visual impact on how much progress has been made so far.&amp;nbsp;Contractors installed the artificial turf on&amp;nbsp;Webb Field&amp;nbsp;and are&amp;nbsp;wrapping up&amp;nbsp;the centerfield&amp;nbsp;logo and line-work. The roofing of the bathroom and storage facilities, and the foundation for the new dugouts is complete.

Pictured above: artificial turf installation at the Academy-Gibson Athletic Fields.

The next project that will go out to bid and begin construction is&amp;nbsp;David Phillips Park. We anticipate construction beginning this summer and taking approximately 12 months to complete. <title>January 2026 Update</title>
    <link>https://concordbonds.com/Project-Updates/ID/25/January-2026-Update</link>
    <description>Construction Continues At Caldwell Park, Ramseur Park, and the Academy-Gibson Athletic Fields!

At Caldwell park, crews have been busy framing the amphitheater, covered basketball courts, and the restroom facility. The band shell style of the amphitheater roof is also featured on the restroom facility, giving the park a cohesive look. Crews started plumbing work within the restroom facility and laid the footings for the splash pad area.

Crews at Ramseur Park have been busy completing mainline sewer work and beginning installation on the stormwater underground detention cells. &amp;nbsp;The detention cells will be installed underneath the parking lot area of the new park to temporarily store large volumes of rainwater and release it slowly to prevent flooding and erosion. You can see the size of the large yellow detention cells beside the Conex container in the picture below&amp;ndash; they&amp;rsquo;re massive! To date, over 52,000 cubic yards of fill dirt was brought in and installed at the new park to level the site during the mass grading phase of the project.

Underground detention cells that will be installed underneath the parking lot at Ramsuer Park will provide stormwater runoff prevention.

Construction continues at the Academy-Gibson athletic fields as crews work on the subbase and drainage system for the new turf field. Renovations at the existing buildings at McAllister and Gibson Fields continues and the footers have been laid for the new storage building at Webb field.

City staff are working on the final permitting for the David Phillips Park and plan to take that project out to bid in late Winter. Final designs for the Academy-Gibson Skate Park, Pump Track, and Sculpture Garden, Poplar Tent Trailhead Park, Hartsell Park, and Wilson Street Park are still underway.

Each month during City Council&amp;#39;s regular meeting, Parks and Recreation staff provide a full update on the status of all Parks &amp;amp; Rec Bond projects. Tune in here at the 13 minute mark for the full presentation.

    <description>For more than 100 years, the Academy-Gibson Athletic Fields have been a place where community comes together to cheer on the hometown, and where dreams are made and friendships are formed.&amp;nbsp;

On October 6, 2025, Mayor Dusch, members of Council, and City leadership, were joined by legendary Coach E.Z. Smith in officially breaking ground on planned field renovations.&amp;nbsp;The ceremony marked the start of a new chapter and continued legacy - ensuring the Academy-Gibson fields remain a place where sports teams and families can make memories for another 100 years.

As we look back in appreciation of our rich history born from Webb and Gibson fields, we&amp;rsquo;re excited for the many ways the bond renovations will enhance&amp;nbsp;Our City, Our Parks, and Our Future.

As part of our Parks &amp;amp; Rec GO Bond project, Webb Field will be getting an upgraded press box, new restroom facilities, and artificial turf.

    <title>Stream Bank Work Complete at Dorton Park</title>
    <link>https://concordbonds.com/Project-Updates/ID/18/Stream-Bank-Work-Complete-at-Dorton-Park</link>
    <description>On Wednesday July 23rd, the safety fencing was removed around the Coddle Creek streambank repair zone in the northwest section of Dorton Park. While the renovations for Dorton Park were completed earlier this spring, a portion of the Coddle Creek Greenway and disc golf course remained closed as work to repair the stream bank continued.&amp;nbsp;Bank and blufftop damage to Coddle Creek in the park became more extensive over time, and repairs required special permitting from state and federal agencies which prolonged the completion of the stream bank work.

Contractors have now compelted the additional work needed and the park, greenway, and disc golf course are now fully open for residents and visitors to enjoy. &amp;nbsp;This fall, trees will be planted throughout the park as the final step in the Dorton Park Bond Project.

    <link>https://concordbonds.com/Project-Updates/ID/16/Weve-Officially-Broken-Ground-on-the-New-JE-Jim-Ramseur-Park</link>
    <description>
Members of the Ramseur Family joined City leaders to officially break ground on the new J.E. &amp;ldquo;Jim&amp;rdquo; Ramseur Park! This is the City&amp;rsquo;s first new park in 23 years and the first park in northwest Concord.

&amp;nbsp;

Named in honor of former Council Member Jim Ramseur, this park will serve residents in the fastest growing area of our city. As part of the Parks &amp;amp; Rec Bond package approved by voters in 2022, the new Ramseur Park will include a splash pad, six lighted pickleball courts, a small and large dog park, multiple playgrounds, open green space, three restroom facilities and six additional shelters.

&amp;nbsp;

Mr. Ramseur served the City of Concord for more than 30 years. His passion for our City&amp;rsquo;s history and vision for the future is reflected in many of the places residents love today. Mr. Ramseur was instrumental in helping the City strategically plan for its anticipated growth and recognized the need for more parks and greenways to enhance residents&amp;rsquo; quality of life and better serve the growing population.

&amp;nbsp;

The new Ramseur Park is located on Cox Mill Road, behind Cox Mill Elementary School. Construction of the park will take about two years.

&amp;nbsp;

Mayor, City Council, City Leadership, and the Ramseur Family participated in a cermonial groundbreaking.

&amp;nbsp;

The late Mr. Ramseurs&amp;#39;s wife and children joined us for the Groundbreaking of the new J.E. &amp;quot;Jim&amp;quot; Ramseur Park
